Weekly roundup 9 June 20223

What a lovely way to start and end the week with the gorgeous sunshine. Lots of the children have been commenting on how they have had their suncream applied and showing us their sun hats. Do remember to apply sunscreen before the children come in as we are unable to reapply during the session. They also need a named water bottle and named sun hat. We would advise against the children bringing in sunglasses as they often get lost or broken rather quickly.

With the weather forecast to be very hot this coming week we will do our best to ensure the children are kept cool by providing activities such as ice and water play. Outside they will be encouraged to stay in the shade and use our shelter to play in. Today we had some fruit ice lollies during afternoon snack to help with keeping us cool!

Our space theme is popular and the children have been engaging in a range of activities to support their learning. The tuff tray in Bumbles featured resources for some interesting space exploration! In Honeys the children have enjoyed making space themed play dough with black colouring and glitter. They have spoken about rockets blasting off into space and sang Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer, helping them to improve their counting skills. Both rooms have enjoyed listening to and looking at a range of books including The Solar System and Baby Loves Gravity!

Some of the Honey's children have had transition visits to the Bumbles room to help them get used to being in there from September. The Bumbles have continued their support for school readiness by having some small group sessions and being visited by one of the Perryfield's Infants teachers. She read a story and got to know some of those that will be attending in the Autumn term.

Our Parent's evening went well and it was great for the Key Workers to meet their children's families to discuss development. We're very grateful to those that completed the Parent Surveys and appreciate the comments about how the setting operates. We'll be sending out a response before the end of the Summer Term.

On a sad note we said goodbye to Keira today. She is leaving us to pursue her dream of becoming a Nanny. Keira started work at the setting as an apprentice and gained a distinction when she qualified as a Level 3 Early Years Educator. She will be missed by all staff and children and has asked me to send out a huge thank you for all the support, gifts and cards she has received. We wish her the best of luck for the future.
Jenny has returned to the setting after finishing her maternity leave and is now working part time. We're glad to have her back and hope she enjoys being with the children in the Bumbles room this term.

Have a great weekend and see you all next week.
