Weekly round up 26 May 2023

I hope you are all enjoying the half term break with the wonderful sunshine. We certainly had fun last week at Pre-School as we came to the end of the first part of the Summer term. There were plenty of opportunities for outside play which incorporated some more planting, picking flowers and exploration of the natural world. Physical development was supported by introducing some resources that allowed children to crawl and jump.

To encourage communication and language, books were brought outside and the children enjoyed listening to stories and looking at their own choice of book. We do encourage all parents to enjoy a bedtime story with their children but why stop there? Creating an environment where stories can be read together certainly appeals to children and there's nothing quite like relaxing in the garden or park with a book. Over the next half term we will be setting a challenge for the most interesting or unusual place that children are reading or looking at a book. It could be while waiting for a bus, in the kitchen or on a trampoline!! Send us your photos and we'll be giving out a prize to the winner on the last day of term!

School transitions continued with children developing their independence and learning about what to expect at lunchtime when they start school. They practiced carrying their own trays after selecting their choice of food. This was quite tricky and very different from opening a lunchbox and tucking into a fully prepared packed lunch!

Our theme next week starts off with Outer Space so we'll be exploring the world beyond our own planet. In preparation you could get started at home by having some discussions with your children about space. What does it look like? Where is space? How would we get there? Talk about the different planets, stars, the sun and the moon. There are so many opportunities to introduce new vocabulary and develop children's imaginations.

Enjoy the rest of the break and don't forget, we are closed for training on Monday but will see you all on Tuesday 6th June.
