Welcome back after a rather wet half term.
The children have been busy getting involved in our new topic, Outer Space. They have explored the solar system and made their own planets using different materials and resources. Debbie showed the Bumbles children a model of the solar system with a rocket that blasted off from the moon. The children in Honeys made their own rockets and planets from junk modelling and created some stardust sparkling playdough.
Children aged two to three years old enjoy exploring different materials, using all their senses to investigate them. This allows them to develop their imagination as they consider what they can do with different materials and make simple models which express their ideas.
We've read lots of stories and books related to space and sang songs including 3 little men in a flying saucer and a modern tune about the solar system. The children have really enjoyed the latter and would be glad to share it with you.
Although the farm topic finished before the half term break the children were very excited to watch a large tractor cutting the grass out on the field. The weather has been very pleasant and our outside area was put to good use with access to the large equipment and outdoor kitchen. The Bumbles had a visit from one of the Perryfields reception teachers this week and got an idea of what primary school will be like in September.
Some have also attended the School Starter Meets being held at Mayce Playce, the soft play centre in Chelmsford. These are running over the next few weeks and are a great way to meet up with other parents and children who are going to the same school. Take a look at their website for more information - https://www.mace-playce.co.uk A big thank you to our student Ava from the Boswells School this week who has helped in both the Honeys and Bumbles rooms. She'll be missed greatly and the children have enjoyed having her around.
We'll be exploring more space themed activities next week and welcoming more teachers from local schools to help with transition.
Have a lovely weekend!
