Weekly Roundup - 24 May 2024

A very late Round Up after the half term and only a few photo's of the week's activities.

We celebrated World Bee Day on Monday 20th May and spoke to the children about how bees help to provide a lot of the food that we eat. They help to grow fruit and vegetables by flying around and pollinating plants and are very important to our ecosystem. They do so much more than simply produce honey.

We also welcomed two students from a local Senior school that week who were interested in learning about working in the early years industry. They got stuck in and had a great time playing with and supporting the children in their activities while undertaking some of the other duties that accompany a career in child care and education. We have another student joining us tomorrow so please do say hello to Ava if you happen to meet her at drop off or collection. Hosting work experience students is an excellent way of introducing people to consider a career in the industry which is struggling with recruitment and retention issues. Those who work in early education and childcare settings have a significant impact on our youngest children and it is a job that can be so rewarding. Let's hope that we can promote our lovely setting and appeal not only to children and families but also future employees!

We've ended our farm topic and plans for this half of term start off with 'Outer Space' for a couple of weeks. The children will be learning about the different planets in our solar system and we'll be modelling language that promotes and challenges their thinking - "I wonder what it is like in space?", and "How could we get to the moon?". This topic is always popular and presents the children with so many learning opportunities.

As we enter the last part of term, just a reminder again about children coming in with a high factor sunscreen already applied, a named sun hat and a named water bottle for drinking. We are unable to apply sunscreen to your child so please do make sure they have an adequate amount applied before they come in and that this is one of the long lasting varieties (8 - 10 hours protection) which are now widely available.

We look forward to seeing you all this week!
