Weekly Roundup 7 July 2023

Welcome to this week's Round-Up with details about what has been happening at Pre-School. Both rooms have started to talk about their holidays and our wonderful world. We've been reading the book "Sharing a Shell" by Julia Donaldson which the children have loved. It explores the story of Crab, Blob and Brush who live on the beach and have fun in the rock pool. Lots of rhyming words and and an interesting tale keeps the children engaged and joining in with repeated refrains, supporting their vocabulary. Don't forget to send in your pictures of children reading in unusual places for their chance to win a prize!!!

We're aiming to support the children's understanding and encourage them to develop positive attitudes about the differences between people. Out topic also helps children to know that there are different countries in the world and hope they will talk about the differences they have experienced or seen in photos.

Lots of mark making opportunities this week in the Bumbles room to support with being ready for school. Children have been using a range of pencils and pens to practice writing their names with a comfortable grip. They have also engaged in some activities to support their fine motor skills including drawing shapes in foam, painting and manipulating materials to achieve a specific effect.

On July the fourth, some of the children learnt about American Independence Day and coloured in some pictures of the American Flag. They spoke about how they have some family in the USA and places they have visited.

We'll continue to celebrate holidays and our wonderful world for the next couple of weeks.

We received some wonderful news this week about our deputy manager Sophie, who was nominated for Practitioner of the Year 2023 at the Nursery World Awards. Sophie has made the shortlist and is now in the final five for a chance to be the winner!!!

The awards take place in London at the end of September and celebrate best practice in 26 categories across the early years sector. Sophie fought off competition from hundreds of other entries and to have come this far shows how exceptional her practice is. We are very proud and grateful to have Sophie at Springfield Bees leading the way for other practitioners to aspire to. You can read about the awards and see Sophie's nomination by visiting www.nurseryworld.co.uk/news/article/the-nursery-world-awards-2023-shortlist-is-out.

Have a great weekend!
