Our holiday topic has been very popular in Bumbles this past week and lots of children have shared their experiences of being at the beach, engaging in some new activities like archery and crabbing - how exciting! They have spoken about spending time with their families and sharing their stories during circle time, helping each other develop positive attitudes about the differences between people.
Water and sand play have been a way for children to recreate their experiences of being on the beach and they have added their own resources to enhance play. Lots of opportunities for digging, scooping, sifting, pouring, building and cleaning up. Sand and water play is a fun way to develop children’s larger muscles and gross motor skills. Adding play accessories such as spoons, rakes or toy boats also promote children’s hand-eye coordination and allow them to practise their fine motor skills. Building extravagant sand castles, making sand mountains and islands and using fishing rods to hook magnetic fish are excellent ideas for engaging children in pretend play. Creative play improves children’s ability to understand new concepts and enables them to connect with their environment. During role play with their friends, they will develop social skills and emotional understanding. Remember to take your buckets and spades to the beach if you get a chance this summer.
The Honeys room have been developing their gross and fine motor skills too by exploring a range of crafts like threading and painting. These activities are also great for concentration and improving coordination skills.
Don't forget next week is the last week at Pre-School and the children finish on Thursday. The Bumbles leavers ceremony starts at 10.00am for children who will be starting school in September this year. Please remember we have no parking on site and only two family members are able to attend. It's standing room only so please be aware of this when arriving. We're looking forward to celebrating with the older Bumbles but feeling sad that we will no longer see them after Thursday!
Have a lovely weekend!
