We’ve had a blast off of a time at preschool this month as we explored the wonderful world of space! The children have been fully engaged in our exciting space-themed week, and we’re thrilled to share some of the fun we’ve been having.
We've been learning all about the planets in our solar system, from the fiery surface of Mercury to the chilly rings of Saturn. The children have shown great curiosity, especially when reading our space books. Many were fascinated by our own planet Earth, noticing how the blue sea and green land make it so special!
Imaginative play has taken us on space missions to the moon, we have also made our own moondough and explored the textures of “moon dust.” These sensory experiences have sparked wonderful conversations and imaginative storytelling.
Our young artists have painted beautiful planets and swirling galaxies using lots of colour and creativity. You’ll be amazed at the cosmic masterpieces they’ve created!
During circle time, the children have loved singing “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, We’re Going to the Moon” and “5 little men in a flying saucer” These songs have helped us explore rhythm and rhyme while reinforcing our space theme in a fun and musical way.
A special shout-out to our Bumbles group, who have worked together to create their very own solar system! It’s now proudly hanging at the entrance to their room — don’t forget to have a look next time you’re in!
Bumbles children have been practicing taking off and putting off their shoes and socks this week with encouragement from each other, this gave them a great sense of satisfaction.
We’ll be continuing our space theme with more stories, science, and sensory play next week. We love seeing the children’s enthusiasm and questions about the universe, and we’re excited to keep exploring together.
Thank you for your continued support. If your child has any space books or toys they'd like to share with the group, we’d love to see them!
If your child would like to bring something in to contribute to our Interest Basket, we warmly welcome this! Items can be a wonderful way to support our current topics and spark discussion with their peers.
Please keep the following in mind:
While we encourage children to leave their items in the basket during the day, we understand they may sometimes want to carry and play with them. Please note that this can occasionally lead to items being misplaced.
