Weekly roundup 3 March 2023

This week we have all been celebrating the joys of Spring, continuing our topic about growing and gardening.

We planted more beans and cress seeds, taking some home and leaving some to grow at Pre-School in see through bags so we can watch the roots forming.

At the craft table we created our own flowers and vegetables, choosing what we would like in our garden and had a go at painting some real daffodils. We looked at books relating to gardening learning how to plant a bulb by digging a hole, placing it in and then covering it up with soil. We have been observing the life cycle of daffodils by having a vase as a centre piece on each table at lunch time, watching how at first we could only see buds before growing a little each day. It’s been very exciting!! We have enjoyed going outside into fresh Spring air, practicing jumping over skipping ropes and using bats and balls.

A huge thank you to everyone that attended our Welly Walk on Saturday! It was a great success and enjoyed by everyone that came along for some fun activities to support children's early literacy and communication skills. This event was organised by the committee with help from staff who have recently had some training from the National Children's Bureau called Making it REAL (Raising Early Achievement in Literacy. This is an award-winning programme that works with practitioners to support children’s early literacy and development. Informal get togethers out of the setting are a great way to meet other parents and children and reinforce our commitment to remaining part of the community (especially when a very kind parent brings along some chocolate treats to enjoy!).

Our topic for the rest of this term starts next week - Fantastic food and shopping. If we have any parents that work in a supermarket or on a farm, our children would love to hear about their experiences so do get in touch! Our book of the week will be Oliver's Vegetables by Vivian French.
