weekly roundup 10 March 2023

This week both rooms have enjoyed learning about our topic food and shopping. This has included looking at where food comes from either shopping or buying it online and waiting for the delivery van to arrive, also how fresh foods grow. Oliver's vegetables which is written by the author Vivian French was a popular story of the week for Bumbles which has led to conversations about the children's favourite vegetables and the children talking about what they have grown.

Whilst playing with play-dough this week the children have spontaneously been making different fruits and vegetables and proudly showing it to their peers and key worker. We have also enjoyed trying rhubarb, preparing it for snack using knives to cut it, being very careful and put it in the bowl, it was then stewed and served as rhubarb & custard composite during Tuesday's snack time. 

Honeys have been enjoying reading the kitchen disco written by Clare Forges and Al Murray, the children have been joining in with the chorus and repetitive words, this book has been read during the sessions with the children to look at it either independently or in a small group, they have been observing the fruits and their favourite has been the pineapple with sunglasses on, very cool! 

We have also enjoyed celebrating Holi - also known as the festival of colours! We have made some colourful cards to gift to our families and Karishma led a circle time on Tuesday and spoke to the children about the meaning of celebrating spring, and using the special day to meet close family and friends, play and laugh! 

Laura hosted a fantastic STEM session on this week for both Bumbles and Honeys focusing on colour and object identification, using a game board the children were able to decide if the picture matched their board or a friends. This gave the children the opportunity to take turns & use words and sentences to tell Laura and their peers what picture they had on our board. Laura also helped us to expand our language by modelling a language rich environment and encouraged us to use descriptive words.

We celebrated international women's day on Wednesday, it was founded in 1910 and is celebrated all over the world. The children made a 3D flower to take home and gift to someone special and also painted tulips during their craft activity, the conversation around the table led to who will celebrate it for example all females including Mothers, Granny's, Doctors and Teachers. The children spoke about how when they grow up they will be a woman or a man "i cant wait to be a lady!".
