This week in Honeys we have enjoyed reading Little Rabbit Foo Foo, this was the children's choice and has really captured their attention. We have been predicting what is going to happen next - “the goblins are coming, he has 1 chance left”. Reading is a popular choice in the Honeys room and books are being looked at and read continuously during our sessions, this is helping the children learn a variety of language. We have also been building friendships through taking part in activities. These have included sharing resources in the water tray and comforting friends if they are in need of support. We have also joined in with sports week by going for rambles around the field - “it’s so squidgy” and dancing to action songs during circle time including Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes.
This week in Bumbles we were very lucky to have had a visit from Hanna who taught us about the Thanksgiving festival and why is it celebrated in America. Hanna read us a Thanksgiving story and showed us the turkey she had brought in with her. We tried some delicious homemade pumpkin cookies and tasted cranberry juice while learning about some of the traditions that are observed during this celebration. We spoke about the things in our lives that we are thankful for.
Our topic this week has been Sports and we have enjoyed having a variety of daily sessions delivered by Superstar Sports. These have included football, dancing, yoga, multi sports and athletics. The children engaged in the activities with confidence and had a chance to win some golden medals! 🏅 The dressing up area had a range of sporting clothes available and the children were keen to try on and wear football shirts, rugby boots, shin pads and other sportswear. We know being active supports many areas of development, not just physical and we encourage children to take part in activities daily as part of a healthy lifestyle. For ideas about how to get the whole family involved visit Active Essex - https://www.activeessex.org.
Conversations and role play about the Football World Cup were also evident this week and some children made flags to wave for when their favourite team played! It'll be very interesting to follow the event for the next couple of weeks!
Next week, we are beginning to think about Christmas which will be our topic until the end of term. We are starting this by reading the story The Elves and The Shoemaker which is a classic fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, often told at Christmas. We'll also be decorating the Pre-School with our Christmas trees and decorations.
We'll be sending out information next week about the children's Christmas Party which will take place on December 16th from 9.00 - 12.00.
Have a lovely weekend!
