The Pre-School children have been busy with preparations for Christmas this week.
In Bumbles the children have been reading The Elves and The Shoemaker while using the workbench to fix and mend boots and shoes. They spent time matching different pairs together looking at size, colour, pattern, material and heel size. Doing this helps children's mathematic skills as they make comparisons between objects relating to size, length, weight and capacity. In small groups the children used their manipulative skills to thread laces on to shoe cut outs which took patience and concentration.
They have started making some tree decorations and helped decorate the room with tinsel and lights. On Friday the children were very lucky and got to visit Perryfields Infant School to watch their Christmas play!!!
In Honeys this week the children have loved decorating the Christmas tree! They have also painted their feet to make some interesting cards and decorations for the festive season. Young children enjoy exploring different materials and using all their senses to investigate them. Parents can encourage this at home by allowing children to explore materials/ resources finding out what they are/what they can do and decide how they want to use them. It is important that children have regular opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling them to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. The quality and variety of what children see, hear and participate in is crucial for developing their understanding, self-expression, vocabulary and ability to communicate through the arts.
Moo Music was fun as always with Farmer Laura teaching everyone some familiar and new songs.
Next week the children will be reading Father Christmas Needs A Wee! and The Night Before Christmas and continuing with the festive celebrations.
All parents should have by now received information about the Christmas Party taking place on Friday 16th December. Please speak to a member of staff if you have not received details.
Enjoy the weekend!
