Weekly roundup 18 November 2022

This week the children in Bumbles and Honeys have been continuing our topic of transport. The children have learned about road safety and why it is important to stop, look and listen when using the zebra crossing and crossing the road. They have made traffic lights and created their own network of roads and roundabouts using masking tape on the floor. Some children were able to speak about how important it is to use car seats and seat belts when travelling in vehicles too. These activities have allowed children to develop their ability of following rules and understanding why they are
important.

Children in Bumbles have made their own sandwiches, choosing what filling to put inside. The snack table was full of conversation about why 'cheese is best' and how 'delicious' jam is! Social situations like this allow children to express a point of view and to debate when they disagree with an adult or a friend, supporting their communication and language development.

The Honeys room have enjoyed playing the lunchbox game which involves some simple turn taking. We were very impressed with how the younger children were able to able to show ‘effortful control’ by waiting for their turn. The story of the week was 'Dazzling Diggers' which led to some play with tractors and excavators in the sand tray. Small world play helps children develop their imagination and opens them to a new world of fictional play where they can explore different concepts and engage in role-play based activities.

We've been very lucky in our application for a community grant and used the money to purchase a workbench for the children. Information about this has gone home and we would ask that you read this and return the consent form if you would like your child to participate.

Next week is the start of our Sports Week and we have some wonderful activities planned for the children. Superstar Sports will be coming in every day and engaging the older group with some varied sessions. These include yoga and dance with Maxine who will be showing us her samba skills and moves! It's also the start of the World Cup and we're encouraging children to come to Pre-School in football kits and sports clothing and show their support for the teams!

Have a lovely weekend.
