Weekly roundup - 20 June 2025

We’ve had another action-packed week here at Springfield Bees, full of exploration, creativity, and plenty of sunshine! Here's a look at what we’ve been up to:

๐ŸŒŸ Topic: Forces

Our current topic is Forces, and the children have been discovering how different types of force work through fun and engaging activities. We used a foot pump to launch a rocket across the room, which had everyone laughing and learning about air pressure!
We also explored magnetism using magnetic files in cylinders, sparking great conversations about magnetic fields. The children expressed their creativity through magnet and string painting, where they could see force in action through art.
Our sinking and floating experiment helped us learn about density – predicting which objects would float and which would sink, then testing our ideas!
Outside we have played tug of war using language such as pull and push, reinforces our topic in a fun way!

๐ŸŒž Weather & Sun Safety

With the summer sun shining, we’ve been talking about weather and the importance of sun safety. We sang songs like “The Sun Has Got His Hat On” and had discussions about why we wear hats and sunscreen. Please remember to send your child in with a hat and water bottle each day, and using ice blocks to ensure pack lunches stay chilled until lunchtime.

๐Ÿƒ‍โ™‚๏ธ Perryfields Juniors Sports Day

We had a fantastic time watching Perryfields Juniors’ Sports Day, cheering on teams and spotting some familiar faces — including siblings and former Springfield Bees children. The team spirit and excitement were contagious, and our children's behaviour made us feel very proud!

๐ŸŽต Jolly Phonics & Transitions

The children have been enjoying our Jolly Phonics sessions, especially singing along and exploring new sounds.
Our Honey’s group have begun their transition into the Bumbles room, and it’s been lovely to see how confidently they are settling in. Meanwhile, the Bumbles children have been visiting their new schools, returning full of stories and excitement to share with their friends.

๐Ÿ• Pizza Snack

On Wednesday, the children made their very own pizzas for snack, choosing their toppings and helping prepare their food. It was a delicious and hands-on way to promote independence and healthy food choices!

๐Ÿ Bumbles have enjoyed being guests at the Bee house cafe this week, choosing from menus, taking orders, serving food and enjoying being a guest with friends.

๐Ÿ’ง Spare Clothes Reminder

As we head into the warmer weeks, we’ll be enjoying lots of water play and outdoor activities. Please could you ensure your child brings a bag with clearly labelled spare clothes to preschool each day.
Our spare clothing supply is very limited, so having your child’s own clothes on hand helps us keep everyone comfortable and dry. Thank you for your support!

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Donations Requested

We’re planning an exciting upcoming activity and are kindly asking for donations of any old or spare keys you may have at home. The children will be using them for an activity over the next few weeks.
If you have any keys you no longer need, please drop them off with a member of the team. Thank you for your support!

๐Ÿงก Race to See the Rise for Cure Usher

Hiya, Amelia here!
On the night of Friday 20th June, I’ll be taking on Scafell Pike—England’s highest mountain—as part of a night-time trek called “Race to See the Rise.” I’m doing this to raise money for Cure Usher, a charity dedicated to finding a cure for Usher Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes both deafness and blindness. This cause is especially close to our hearts, as our son Albert (9) was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome four years ago.

As a family, we’ve been navigating this journey and working to raise awareness and funds that will support vital research and bring hope for a cure. I’ll be walking with Craig (Albert’s dad) and 18 other amazing people connected by this condition. If you’d like to support us, you can donate via our JustGiving page here:

Your support means the world to us — thank you! Thank you for your continued support and for being part of our Springfield Bees community. We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
