Weekly roundup 11 November 22

This Round Up covers both last week and this week at Pre-School.

The Bumbles children have been busy talking about their half term break and experiences of Halloween. They have made and played with play-dough, searched for spooky spiders in the rice and explored the pumpkins, scooping and mashing the flesh. The rainy weather hasn't stopped the children from being outside and they have loved putting on their wetsuits and wellies, getting active and playing outside games. They have been learning and talking about our topic of transport at circle time and using different materials to investigate how tyres make tracks in the sand and paint.
The children made traffic lights and talked about road safety and used them in the role play area. We'll be doing more of this next week too.

Both rooms have celebrated celebrated Diwali with some children making Diwa lamps and rangoli patterns. Paint and glitter was used to make fireworks pictures too and children shared their tales of watching the displays over the weekend.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) sessions have begun and the children have enjoyed some simple and engaging activities. It is important that children develop positive attitudes and interests in mathematics, look for patterns and relationships, spot connections, ‘have a go’, talk to adults and peers about what they notice and not be afraid to make mistakes. To support at home, help your child make comparisons between objects relating to size, length, weight and capacity. Provide experiences of size changes. Suggestions: “Can you make a puddle larger?”, “When you squeeze a sponge, does it stay small?”, “What happens when you stretch dough, or elastic?” Talk with children about their everyday ways of comparing size, length, weight and capacity. Model more specific techniques, such as lining up ends of lengths and straightening ribbons, discussing accuracy: “Is it exactly...?”

In Honeys, the children enjoyed listening to Peppa Pig stories, cheering the characters on the bus. They are also learning about transport and The Wheels on the Bus was the favourite song of the week, chosen by the children at circle time. Reading and singing are great ways to increase your child's communication and language. You can help at home by letting children listen to simple stories and look at picture books so they can understand what is happening.

We've had a wonderful response to the completion of the Activity Tracker and so many children made a wonderful effort to engage in a range of physical activities. A really big thank you to everyone that took part!

Our winners of the Mayce Playce tickets were Pippa, Olivia. Jessica and Robyn. A special prize was awarded to Zidan for the excellent range of ways in which he exercised over the half term. He won a target game which will continue to encourage him with keeping active.

This last week has been sad for all of us here at Springfield Bees. Aliona, who works in Bumbles is leaving us after almost six years and will be missed by all. We want to wish her the best of luck in her new job in a junior school and hope she comes and visits us soon!!

Have a great weekend!
