Weekly roundup - 15 May 2026

🌊 Under the Sea

We have had a fantastic week exploring our Under the Sea topic! The children have enjoyed a variety of creative and sensory activities, including making jellyfish using sand and glitter, creating under-the-sea animals with playdough, and exploring a coral reef tray.

Our sensory play has been very popular, especially our water bead tray linked to our ocean theme. We have also been learning about how to look after our oceans, discussing the importance of taking our rubbish home and staying safe when near the sea.

📚 Story Time

This week we enjoyed reading The Snail and the Whale, which the children really loved.

🗣️ Early Talk Boost

We have recently began delivering our Early Talk Boost sessions in the Bumbles room, led by Viktoria and Sunita. As part of this, the children will be enjoying a weekly story alongside fun, language-focused activities to support their communication and understanding. We encourage you to continue this at home by sharing stories together and talking about them with your child.

🍓 Healthy Eating

The children have been making their own smoothies using bananas, strawberries and spinach, at first the children were unsure to try it due to the green colour, however when Zoe suggested that she thought it looked like Hulk juice – it was a big hit! Thankyou to Nourishing our future, the project we are partaking in with ARU and nutritionists guidance for gifting us the Nutribullet to use.

🏒 Learning About the World

We have been discussing the Ice Hockey Championships, learning about what the players do, how they stay safe, and where the event takes place in Switzerland.

🐛 Our Caterpillars Have Arrived!

We were very excited to welcome 10 caterpillars to Springfield Bees this week! The children eagerly waited for the postman to deliver them, helped to carefully unpack them, and we discussed how they will change over the coming days and weeks.

🏆 Exciting News!

This week we also learnt that we have been shortlisted for the Essex Teaching Awards - Inclusive Practice Award. We are all incredibly happy about this achievement.

This award celebrates individuals or teams who champion inclusion and create learning environments where every child feels valued and supported including -

  • Ensuring all children and young people can thrive, whatever their background or needs
  • Promoting equality
  • Breaking down barriers
  • Inspiring others and leave a lasting impact on pupils, families, schools, and the wider community.

The award recognises a commitment to fostering belonging and opportunity for personal growth and wellbeing, not just for academic success. At Springfield Bees inclusion is very important to us, and we are so proud that this has been recognised. We can’t wait to share how the awards evening goes in mid-June!

🧥 Lost Property Reminder

Honeys parents – please could you check if your child has taken home a grey denim coat. It was last seen at preschool on Friday 8th May. Please see the gallery for an image.

Please also look through our lost property, we have accumulated a wide range of items and would love for them to find their way home!

🐝 Next Week – Bees!

Next week our topic is Bees. Our book of the week will be “Why Do We Need Bees?”. We are also very excited that Chelmsford Beekeepers will be visiting us in June.

Reminder - We will be closed for half term from Monday 25th May-Friday 29th May.
