Weekly review - 8 May 2026

πŸ„ This Week at Pre-School

This week we have continued with our farm theme. The children have enjoyed making animals using junk materials and matching words to different animals. We have been reading Farmer Duck and Oliver’s Vegetables, and farm bingo has been especially popular in the Honeys room!

🚜 Outdoor Observation

On Friday morning, we were lucky enough to watch a tractor cutting the grass on the field, which the children found very exciting.

πŸŽ’The Bumbles children are enjoying talking about their new schools. They have been trying on uniforms from our dressing-up area, pretending to be teachers, and using exercise books in their role play. We have also been taking part in small group activities, where the children are becoming increasingly confident in following staff guidance.

🌍 During circle times this week, we have been learning about different types of farming, including rice and trout farming. We have been signing farm animals including pig, cow, chicken and duck in Makaton. We also celebrated David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on 8th May! The children watched his birthday message and learned about his dedication to nature and protecting our planet for future generations.

🌱 This week we have begun planting carrots, lettuce, radish, and sweetcorn - we are very excited to watch them grow! We have also added lavender to our playdough to create a lovely multi-sensory experience.

🌱 At preschool, we are encouraging the children to develop their independence in everyday tasks. This includes putting on their own coats, managing their shoes, tidying away toys, and opening their lunch items. Supporting independence helps to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement. You can help at home by giving your child time to try things for themselves, offering gentle encouragement, and praising their efforts. Small steps make a big difference, and we love celebrating these achievements with the children!

πŸŽ‰ Please see attached information about Perryfields Infant School’s Inflatable Fun Afternoon, taking place on Friday 5th June from 3:15–5:15pm. Wristbands are £10 and can be purchased in advance.
