Weekly roundup - 5 June 2026

Before sharing all the exciting activities from our Outer Space themed week, we have some sad news to share.

We are sad to be saying goodbye to Debbie this week, as she leaves us to spend more time with her family. We are incredibly grateful for all the care, dedication and support she has given over the years, and she will be very much missed by both the children and the team.

This week, our topic has been Outer Space 🚀⭐

The children have enjoyed exploring the wonders of the solar system through a variety of creative and hands-on activities.

The children created beautiful star pictures using golden and silver paint, experimenting with colours and textures to make their own sparkling night skies. They also enjoyed creating imaginative alien pictures, using a variety of art materials to design their own friendly space creatures.

The children in Bumbles made air dry clay planets, carefully shaping and decorating them while learning about the different planets in our solar system. We also had lots of fun making planets using different materials, including wood pulp pads. The children used pipettes to carefully add water and watch their planets grow, developing their fine motor skills while exploring different textures and materials.

One of the most popular activities this week was our "Who Can Make the Tallest Rocket Ship?" challenge. The children worked creatively and collaboratively, using magnetic blocks and wooden blocks to design and build impressive rockets, exploring concepts such as height, balance, and stability.

The children in Bumbles also enjoyed some exciting sensory experiences. The sparkly galaxy water play was a big hit, encouraging exploration, imagination, and discussion about space. They were equally engaged with our special galaxy playdough, where they used their creativity to make planets, stars, rockets, and other space-themed creations.

Kay's small group activity was also very popular. The children learned about space and the solar system, including the positions of the planets, their shapes, and which planets are the coldest and warmest. They were fascinated to learn about important milestones in space exploration, including the first person to travel into space, the first animal sent into space, and the first Indian woman in space. The children showed great curiosity and asked lots of thoughtful questions throughout the discussions.

We also enjoyed reading a variety of non fictional books about space this week. The most popular books were Mad About Rockets, Stars and Outer Space and You Choose – In Space. These books sparked many interesting conversations and helped the children develop their knowledge and understanding of the world beyond Earth.

In our circle time, we have been learning the "8 Planets of the Solar System" song. The children have been keen singing along and are becoming familiar with the names and order of the planets. Why not have a listen to the song at home and enjoy singing it together? It's a fun way to help the children remember the names and order of the planets.
