Weekly roundup 13 January 2023

Happy New Year to you all and a big welcome back after the break. The children in both rooms have been filling us in with their tales of presents and excitement of Christmas.

In Honeys we have enjoyed reading the story Happy New Year Spot at circle time and in small groups. We have extended the story by talking about our New Year wishes - “I wish to be big”, “I want to fly!". We have been playing with playdough, sharing our resources using the sand timer for a visual reminder and remembering to follow our golden rules. Dressing up has been a popular activity with lots of the children choosing to be Superheroes! We've welcomed some new children to the room and are sure that they will settle in with so much going on! 

In Bumbles this week the children have really embraced the topic of People Who Help Us. They have spent time thinking about a range of people who assist us in our daily lives. The usual suggestions of nurses, doctors and police officers were brought up but at circle time we thought about shop keepers, refuse collectors and postal workers. Some children even wrote letters to thank some of these figures for the work that they do. 
The farm yard was out and we talked about how farmers help us, growing food and rearing animals. During small group time we spoke about dentists and how important it is to keep our teeth healthy. Some children built a den, working together as a team whilst supporting physical development and problem solving skills. 

Next week we'll continue with the theme of People Who Help Us and start our celebrations for the upcoming Chinese New Year with some food tasting and exciting activities related to the year of the Rabbit! 

Both rooms will be listening to the story of Alice's Wonderful Hospital Adventure by Tony Densley & Niki Palmer. The Bumbles will also learn about Florence Nightingale and the work she did as a nurse, during circle time.
