The children have enjoyed talking about their Platinum Jubilee celebrations and sharing news of their experiences. We have heard about the fly-pass, street parties, flags, the Queen and BBQ's, to name but a few! We have had our own celebrations at the Pre-school this week with the children making scones, crowns, bunting, jewels and flags.
The children in Bumbles have been looking at photos of the royal family, seeing who they recognise and relating this back to their own families. Their book, Katie in London, by James Mayhew, has led to lots of conversations about the sights in our capital city and what the children have seen in person or on the television. Our shape of the week was diamond which the children have explored by making kites, which they have attempted to fly on the field.
We have used lots of red and white, our colour of the week, with the children enjoying fruit painting. There were lots of visitors to Bumbles this week: Reggie and Albert, two of our ex-pupils who now attend The Bishops School came in on Monday to talk to the children about big school and all the enjoyable things they can expect. We have also had two teachers from Perryfields Infant School holding transitions sessions with the whole class, talking about what the children can expect at primary school, reading stories and answering questions the children had. The children have spent lots of time practicing taking on and off school uniform, which has led to lots of conversations about some of the schools in the local area and the different ways of starting formal education including home schooling.
Honeys have been watching videos of the Jubilee celebrations, seeing the Queen on the palace balcony and practiced their royal waves whilst listening to the national anthem. They even pretended to be aeroplanes doing a fly pass. There have been some wonderful crowns designed and made by the children and they practiced walking like the Queen. The children have been exploring the garden, checking on the growth of our plants and noticing how they are changing. They have been developing hand eye coordination playing bat and ball games and used flowers to make beautiful sun catchers.
Moo Music and Superstar Sports were great fun this week and a really good way for the children follow instructions, whilst having fun and improving their physical development.
During these warmer months, please ensure that your child brings in a named sun-hat and that you apply an all day sun-cream before they come into Pre-school. We like to make full use of the wonderful open space outside we have, especially when the weather is sunny, so it's important your child is protected from the sun. We thankyou in advance.
The colour and the shape next week are orange and heart and our book is The Family Book, by Todd Parr.
