Weekly roundup - 6 September 2024

Welcome everyone!

This is the term's first weekly round up with details of what has been happening at Pre-School after the summer break.

It's been lovely to hear the children speak about their holidays and the fun times they've been having. We've had new children settling in which is going great and both rooms have been offering activities to help with the transition from home to Pre-School, or from the Honeys to the Bumbles room.

We've read popular stories including "You Choose" which have been well received by the children. Key Workers have been spending time getting acquainted with their new children and families and finding out about their interests. The next couple of weeks will follow a similar theme with children learning about the routines, rules and boundaries in Pre-School. They will learn about our 'Golden Rules' expectations and talk about what these mean, for example, sharing toys and helping others.

To help us find out about our families, we'd like to ask parents to share family photographs over Tapestry and to complete the ‘All About Me’ books for children to share during group time. This helps to create an environment where children feel secure which will support with the settling in process.

These first few weeks can be a little unsettling for both children and parents but the staff do all they can to support the process. Children aged under three are developing ways of managing transitions, for example from their parent to their Key Person and our job is help them thrive as they develop self-assurance. The older children are developing their sense of responsibility and membership of a community by attending the setting regularly.

We encourage you to come into the rooms at drop off to help settle your child before saying goodbye and reminding them they will be collected a little later on. Doing this helps to build trust and it is perfectly normal for young children (and parents!) to experience some separation anxiety. If you are concerned, please speak to your child's Key Worker or a member of the senior staff team, Sophie (Deputy Manager and room lead in Honeys), Laura (room lead in Bumbles) or Carla (Manager). We'll do all we can to help.

As we get back onto the swing of things, here are a few reminders about the setting that we hope you find useful.

  • All children need to bring in a named drink bottle/cup which should be filled with water only.
  • Please bring in a pair of named Wellies for your child to keep at Pre-School as we go out in all weathers.
  • The car park and entrance to the car park must not be used for drop off or collection.
  • Remember our drop off and collection times which are 9.00 - 12.00 and 12.00 - 15.00.

We rely on you being punctual so we can keep offering our model of high quality and affordable childcare to local families. We are a charity run setting and must adhere to strict times as part of our lease agreement. If you are late collecting, you will be fined so be warned!! Do read through the setting's policies and procedures which are available to view on our website - https://www.springfieldbees.co.uk/parents-information/policies.  Our website also has information about our term dates which you may find useful to make a note of.

Look out for an email regarding how to sign up to Tapestry, our online platform which allows you to follow your child's learning journey while at Pre-School. It's also where you can see photographs of what they have been doing and access the Weekly Round Up.

We look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child's progress and learning during their time at Springfield Bees.

Enjoy the weekend!
