Weekly roundup 28 April 2023

Another busy and fun filled week at Pre-School with some very interesting activities taking place. Lots of these following our topic, Mini Beasts which the children have very much embraced, particularly watching our butterflies getting ready for their release. As I write, the children are deciding on what names to call them. The Bumbles children have been on a bug hunt around the field trying to spot insects and creepy crawlies identified on their clipboards.

They used their skills inside to create a bug hotel from pieces of junk which we hope will attract some little creatures! They also spent time outside planting potatoes and will watch as they grow. There were some activities to celebrate World Earth Day too which helps to raise awareness about how to protect the planet from things like pollution and deforestation. By taking part in activities like picking up litter and planting trees, we’re making our world a happier, healthier place to live.

One of our parents came to talk to the children about how her family celebrated Eid. We looked at and shared photographs and tried on a range of clothing and jewellery that is traditionally worn during the celebration. Some of the children also had their hands painted with some Mehndi patters. We spoke about St George's day and learnt the story about how he was brave enough to slay the dragon which was terrorising a town. The children made swords and shields and spoke about bravery and courage. School transition sessions have supported children's fine motor skills with activities such as cutting shapes and holding pens and pencils comfortably to form some identifiable shapes and letters from their name.

We are mindful about how we are teaching the children to read and write at Pre School and understand that development in literacy is individual to each child. Key Workers and staff will know which stage of development your child is at and what activities will help to support their gross and fine motor skills.

Next week we will be moving on to our topic of the Farm and helping children to learn about the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things. We'll also be counting down to the King's Coronation and having a bit of a party to celebrate on Friday so feel free to pack a few treats in your children's lunches to celebrate (remember, no nuts!).

A few reminders for next week

Monday 1st is May Day and is a bank holiday so Pre-School will be closed.
Wednesday 3rd of May our photographer will be visiting the Pre-School to take photographs of the children which will be available to purchase (no obligation) afterwards. If your child does not attend on a Wednesday please contact us before then to arrange a convenient slot.

Also, we'd like to remind everyone that there is absolutely no parking allowed on site and that the gates to the car park must not be blocked at any time. Thank you for your understanding.

Have a great weekend.
