Weekly roundup 27 January 2023

This week in Bumbles we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. The children designed their own coins to place in a red envelope, sharing good wishes and good fortune. They had a go at writing their own Chinese symbols using brushes and black paint and used chopsticks to pick up rice. We read the story about the Chinese zodiac and made some origami rabbits, the animal for the year 2023.

Our third week celebrating people who help us meant we received visits from a police officer and a health care assistant who taught us all about their jobs. We learnt that the Police are there to help protect and help us, not just "catch the baddies". Nurses and health care assistants do similar jobs helping to care for us when we're injured or unwell. Another big thank you to the parents that came in this week to share stories about their occupations. We are so grateful.

At snack on Friday the children have enjoyed tasting a variety of foods including noodles with chopsticks along with broccoli, parsnips, mange-tout cauliflower and carrots.

Honeys have also been celebrating Chinese New Year, talking about the year of the rabbit and singing 'Sleeping Bunnies' during circle time - this was very popular and led to conversations about how at home it becomes darker when it’s night-time, so we turned the lights off to sing this song. We have tasted different foods including noodles, broccoli, parsnips and cooked carrot - trying to put them on a spoon was tricky but the children used great perseverance and encouraged each other. 

Next week we will be reading some traditional stories, carrying out science experiments and investigating how things work.
