We have enjoyed another busy and fun filled week at Pre-School with some very interesting activities taking place. Lots of these following our topic, Mini Beasts and we've enjoyed listening to our bug related stories including Superworm, Spinderella and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have welcomed 5 tiny caterpillars this week and spent time talking about how we can take care of them and learning about their life cycle which we will watch over the coming weeks. We will keep you updated with their progress. Some of the children have made their own craft caterpillars using recyclable resources, saved from the children’s lunchboxes.
The Bumbles children have been on a bug hunt around the field trying to spot insects and creepy crawlies using binoculars they had made during the session. To help children understand World Earth Day (22nd April) there were some activities planned to raise awareness about how to protect the planet from things like pollution and deforestation. These included picking up litter and planting trees to make our world a happier, healthier place to live. For more information about World Earth Day visit - https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/celebrations/article/earth-day.
On 23rd April we celebrated St George’s Day. During circle time we learnt the story about how St George was brave enough to slay the dragon which was terrorising a town. The children made their own flags and shields and spoke about bravery and courage.
Next week we will be moving on to our topic of the Farm and helping children to learn about the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things. Our story of the week will be What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson.
A few reminders -
The weather is forecast to start warming up towards the end of the week so we recommend putting a high factor sun cream on your child before they attend so they are protected from the sun's rays. We do go outside every session so please ensure the children have suitable clothing for this.
It's a good idea to check your children’s bags every day and replace any spare clothes if they have been used.
Please speak to your child’s key worker if needed to discuss their development and to keep us updated with any changes at home, for example if you will be moving house, a new baby etc so that we can help support the children here at Pre-School.
Have a lovely weekend all!
