Weekly roundup 23 January 2026

This week at Springfield Bees, our topic has been “People Who Help Us.” The children have shown great interest and enthusiasm as we further explored the many ways people help us in our everyday lives and in our wider world.

β™»οΈπŸŒ As part of this theme, we have been learning about how we can all help to look after our environment. The children explored recycling and discussed why it is important to reduce waste and keep our surroundings clean. We also focused on caring for the beach and the sea, talking about how litter can affect animals and what we can do to help keep these environments safe and clean.

🩺πŸ₯ We have also been learning about doctors and nurses and the important role they play in keeping us healthy. The children enjoyed creating a body map, thinking about how doctors and nurses help different parts of our bodies and what equipment they use, such as plasters and thermometers, to care for us when we are unwell or hurt.

πŸ’¬πŸŒ± Through this theme, the children have been developing their understanding of the world around them, building confidence to talk about their own experiences, and learning how kindness, care and responsibility help us all.

πŸ”πŸ§ͺ Looking Ahead - Investigation Week

Next week our topic will be Investigation Week. The children will be colour mixing, exploring bubbles, and taking part in simple experiments, including learning about gravity.

πŸ“Œβ° Reminders

  • Our AGM will take place next Tuesday 27th January from 7.00–9.00pm at preschool. We very much welcome parents and carers to come along to learn more about the preschool and how our committee supports us.
  • Our Parents’ Evening will take place on 10th February. Please speak to your child’s key worker, Sophie or Viktoria, to book an appointment.
  • A gentle reminder that our sessions finish at 12.00pm and 3.00pm. A late collection fee of £15 per 15 minutes will apply.
  • In accordance with our policy, any child who requires paracetamol or ibuprofen in the morning should not attend preschool, as this indicates they may be unwell.

Tips for Supporting Children’s Communication

  • Read Every Day - Choose books with repetition and rhyme; pause to let your child finish familiar phrases.
  • Talking Together - Narrate daily routines (e.g. “We’re pouring the milk into the cup”) to model language.
  • Ask Open Questions - Instead of “Did you have fun?” try “What was your favourite part of the day?”
  • Sing & Rhyme - Songs and rhymes help with rhythm, memory and pronunciation.
  • Play Pretend - Role-play shops, kitchens or adventures to spark conversation and imagination.
