Weekly roundup - 16 February 2024

We start this week off by thanking you all for the lovely comments, praise and gifts we have received after our recent OFSTED report. We are all still buzzing with excitement and appreciate the support and kindness shared by all of our families.

Our children have continued to explore our topic of 'All Around The World' and learnt about Shrove Tuesday. Did you know that Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe? It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent – a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter. We refer to Shrove Tuesday as Pancake Day as Christians would give up rich, tasty foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat (some Christians continue to do so, in fact). Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat them – and what better way to do so than with a delicious pancake! The children had pancakes for snack on Tuesday and enjoyed choosing their favourite toppings.

Wednesday was Valentine's Day and some of the children made cards for special people on their lives. Our Artist Of The Week used red paint to print red hearts and flowers onto paper 'because Mummy likes flowers'. Perhaps some inspiration from studying the Banksy paintings this term?

Next half term we'll be looking at the works of Leonardo da Vinci, starting with his most famous portrait of the Mona Lisa. Why not ask your child to create their own portrait over the half term? They can use pens, pencils, chalks or crayons to make a picture of someone they know. They can bring these in after half term and we can share them at Circle Time.

We've enjoyed reading some traditional fairy tales this week too, Cinderella and Goldilocks and The Three Bears were our favourites.

A reminder that we return to Pre-School on Tuesday 27th February after the half term next week. We'll be starting our topic of gardening and growing, not just focusing on the outside and plants but also how Karishma's baby is growing in her tummy!! She is due in August and we're delighted that she's happy to share her journey into motherhood with us and the children.

We're always after seeds, plants and compost at this time of year so if you know a generous gardener do point them in our direction as we'd like to grow some simple fruits and vegetables on our return.

Have a great half term and we look forward to seeing you all after the break.
