Weekly roundup 14 March 2025

Good afternoon, wonderful families!

This week, we’ve been diving into the world of healthy eating, helping children make nutritious choices and developing lifelong healthy habits. On Friday during snack, we were talking about where cheese and milk comes from, how it is made and the alternatives for children who may be intolerant to it. We have also investigated how tall our cress and mustard have grown after planting the seeds last week. The children have been keen to touch them, smell them and some have even tasted them. We will be taking the pots outside to our garden area next week so we can continue to see the grow progress. The children have had so much fun engaging in activities such as fruit printing, sorting foods into groups, a lively "dance party disco" (as described by the little ones!), and mindfulness exercises.

If you’re looking for more information on healthy eating, we recommend checking out the NHS Eatwell Guide (The Eatwell Guide - NHS) and some simple, delicious recipe ideas (Healthy recipes for kids - BBC Food). Including your child in meal preparation—such as offering meal choices, making a fruit salad, or stirring a sauce—can be a great way to encourage their interest in food!

Why Healthy Eating Matters

Good nutrition supports brain development, boosts energy, and strengthens the immune system. A balanced diet helps children concentrate better in school, stay active, and develop a positive relationship with food.

Healthy Lunchbox & Snack Tips

  • Add a splash of colour with fruits and vegetables – They provide essential vitamins and minerals for growth.
  • Choose whole grains – Whole wheat bread, brown rice, and oats are great sources of fibre.
  • Include protein-packed foods – Lean meats, eggs, beans, and yogurt help build strong muscles.
  • Limit sugary snacks and drinks – Water and milk are the best choices for hydration.

Exciting News: Healthy Lunchbox Competition!

Next week, we’ll continue our healthy eating focus with a Healthy Lunchbox Competition! Winners from each of the Honeys and Bumbles rooms will be chosen and will receive a special prize.

Henna

We would like to express our gratitude to Sneha Anvita’s Mum who kindly came in to demonstrate Henna on Wednesday afternoon, it was a hugely popular activity for both children and staff.

Updates on Our Preschool Team

Hopefully, you’ve all seen the email about Sophie stepping in as Acting Manager—please feel free to reach out to her whenever you need to!

Viktoria and Crystal are now our Deputy Managers, and we’re excited to announce that Viktoria and Hannah have been offered Room Leader positions. Viktoria will be leading the Honeys Room, and Hannah will be the Room Leader in Bumbles on Fridays. We wish them every success in their new roles!

Library Corner: A Love for Reading!

Just a reminder that our Pre-School library is always open! Children are welcome to take books home to read and swap them for new ones. Please do this at the beginning of your child’s session with you as a Parent/Carer/Grandparent. A member of staff will be happy to stamp your child’s reading record. It’s wonderful to see how much the children love their reading time!

A top tip from the Talk Listen Cuddle (TLC) project: “Share fiction and non-fiction, poetry, and rhyme books with your child to introduce a variety of storytelling styles!” You can find more ways to encourage reading here: Encouraging Reading - TLC.
