Weekly Roundup 10 November 2023

Another fun week completed at pre-school, and what a busy week it has been. We have enjoyed reading our books of this week, particularly Amelia Erhart (Little people big world), and Neil Armstrong (Little people big world), this has led to conversations about going to space, and enjoyment of playing with the space set “5,4,3,2,1” and “blast off” were heard during the play . Transport and travel has been our topic this week, in the Honeys class we have played a listening and attention game, this involved listening to different modes of transport and guessing the sounds, for example on land we heard cars and a motorbike, on the water we heard a boat and ship’s horn and air an aeroplane and a helicopter, we reinforced this activity by using visual pictures of these.

In the Bumbles room we have read stories about vehicles and transport. We have spoken about how we travel to preschool, the most popular were walking, cycling and scooting, which we explained is very healthy for our bodies. We have also been

On Monday we used circle time to talk about the fireworks we have seen over the weekend, this was a popular subject with many children explaining to us where they have been and what they have seen and heard, we continued this theme with different crafts throughout the week and have also watched a short clip of the London fireworks, listening to the different sounds that fireworks can make.

We have also enjoyed celebrating Diwali throughout the week, making Diya lamps to take home and Rangoli patterns, the Honeys room have also made Diwali cards. Sunita and Kay wore their best clothes on Friday to the preschool and spoke with the children about what this celebration means to them, they also gave the children the opportunity to try on their clothes and explore Sunita’s special jewellery that she will wear when celebrating this weekend.

Some children have participated in cooking this week, we have made Samosa’s, we used our senses during this activity by exploring the smells of the coriander and curry powder, the texture of the filo pastry and the sight of the Samosa before cooking and afterwards when it had shade of brown on top, the children were proud to take these home to enjoy with their families.

On Tuesday and Thursday both the Bumbles and Honeys rooms enjoyed participating in a Moo music session, talking about Maggie Moo and wearing a mask to represent her whilst exploring the instruments and the different ways we can use them, lifting our instruments above our head and then down to our toes. This extra-curricular activity is very popular with the children and is a part of our curriculum to “Explore a range of sound makers and instruments and play them in different ways”

We participated in a 2 minute silence on Friday morning as part of Remembrance day and have been decorating our own poppies during the week. We watched Cbeebies ‘Poppies’ film please see attached link www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/poppies

Superstar sports was on Friday morning with both the Honeys and Bumbles room participating in a yoga session, we pretended to be astronauts and flew to space.

Outside this week what the time Mr Wolf has been a popular activity, this has encouraged the children to count and participate in a group activity. We have also been launching our conker comets which were made during craft time.

We have had a number of children with coughs and colds this week and would like to gently remind parents that children are fine to come in to pre-school if they feel well enough. If your child requires or has calpol in the morning before preschool to please not bring them in for their session. Also we have had a case of hand foot and mouth this week, please see attached link for advice if www.nhs.uk/conditions/hand-foot-mouth-disease

Wishing our families a wonderful weekend, please send in any photos of Remembrance services you attend and Diwali celebrations for us to talk about during our circle times next week.
