Weekly Roundup - 8 November 2024

It's been a space themed week and we've had lots to celebrate. We took the children on a journey through the stars, explored planets, and imagined what it might be like to be an astronaut. Space week offered a wonderful way to introduce science, creativity, and curiosity, with hands-on activities that brought the universe to Pre-School.

We explored the solar system and read stories to help children learn about the planets, moon, and stars. They dressed up as astronauts, tried on moon boots and created some spectacular space art - glittering galaxies and rockets.

The twinkling continued with children talking about their experiences of festivals taking place over the half term break including Diwali. Thank you all for uploading your wonderful pictures of holidays over the half term.

We loved looking at the firework pictures too and spoke about the annual tradition of Bonfire Night and how this brings communities together. The children engaged in their own firework crafts using bright colours, glitter, and some fun splatter techniques! If you are planning to celebrate Bonfire Night at home this weekend, we recommend talking to your children about safety, particularly if they are using sparklers.

Some of you may be attending services dedicated to Remembrance Day this weekend to commemorate the sacrifices made by people in times of war. We spoke to the children about why we observe this special day and the significance of history and the importance of maintaining peace. We'll be encouraging the children to observe the national silence at 11 a.m. on 11th November to honour the people who have died in war. It can be very difficult for young children to understand the significance of Remembrance Day. The BBC has an evocative animation that sees war as experienced by animals in a WWI battlefield and is aimed at younger children. Click on the link to watch - www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/poppies

Next week our theme will be Senses and we'll be looking at how we use these (sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell) to explore the world around us. Next Friday (15th November) we'll be celebrating Children In Need and are encouraging the children to come to Pre-School dressed in their favourite pyjamas! Please make sure they also bring in coats and shoes as we'll still be going outside to play. For more information about Children In Need please visit www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk  where you can donate and support children to overcome the challenges they are facing.

Have a great weekend.
