Weekly roundup - 8 March 2024

We're into our second week of learning about gardening and our beans have already started to sprout. Jake was extremely pleased to learn that his plant was first to produce a green shoot. Let's see if it remains in the lead next week.

It was World Book Day on Thursday and some of the children and staff dressed up in their favourite outfits. These included superheroes, princesses, Paddington Bear and a couple of Matilda's! The main aim for observing World Book Day is to encourage children to develop a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.

Did you know that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success? The National Literacy Trust has some great resources and information for parents to develop young children's interest in reading and stories. For more information visit literacytrust.org.uk/early-years/  Today we celebrated International Women's Day which is observed annually in support and recognition of women who pave the way for progress and equality. With Mothering Sunday approaching we shared some kind words about our Mum's and special women in our lives. The children in Bumbles made cards and paper flowers, demonstrating their creative skills.

Next week we'll be reading Oliver's Vegetables (again but it's a favourite!) and expanding the growing theme by learning about food and shopping. We'll be discussing where the children go to buy their vegetables and talking about the different ways of getting vegetables - whether it’s from a supermarket or grown in the garden. The role play area will include some food, baskets and a shopping trolley along with a till with money and debit cards.

Have a good weekend.
