Weekly Roundup 4 October 2024

Today is World Smile Day, it has been so lovely to see the children coming in this morning smiling and this continuing throughout the day, please see the attached photos, we love to see your children happy and thriving at Preschool.

Our book of the week has been the three little pigs, this was well received by the children in both rooms, with children remembering key phrases and using the story during the session in role play. The children in both rooms spoke about what their homes were made of, and some children replicated their homes during play using a variety of different materials including natural, magnets and wooden blocks.

During the week the Bumbles children have been looking at different buildings around the world including the Empire State building in New York City and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, children have been tracing around the buildings whilst also drawing their own after observing the picture.

We have also learnt about Rosh Hashanah the Jewish Festival that was celebrated this week, it means the Beginning of the year and it honours the creation date of Adam and Eve some 5700 years ago.

We have been reading the colour monster book this week, it is a book themed around emotions and feelings, Yellow is happiness, blue is sadness, red is anger and calm is green, in this sensitive story we gently encourage our children to explore these emotions and have discussed as a group how we can feel during our sessions, and how to seek comfort if needed, we have also had a mindfulness session on Wednesday.

Honey’s celebrated World Poetry Day on Thursday by reading rhyming books, and listening to a poem named ‘Dont’ written and read by Michael Rosen.

We want to thank all of our families for your contributions towards our Harvest festival hamper, the generosity has been overwhelming and it has been a wonderful subject of conversation throughout the week with the children, we look forward to having a visitor come in to see us next week to explain to the children about the Harvest festival and to collect the hamper.

Next week our topic is Healthy Eating, Healthy Mind, our books of the week will be “A trip to the dentist”, “The Tiny Seed” - by Eric Carle and “Oliver’s Vegetables” - by Vivian French. We will be discussing healthy food choices, sharing experiences of visiting the dentist and talking about where and how our food is grown and how it is transported to the supermarket.

We are holding a competition for the most healthy lunchbox, the winner will receive a fresh fruit hamper. Please find attached a link below to the NHS website with some advice and tips including lunch box ideas, good luck!
